Interview with Nathalie Nilsson

Nathalie Nilsson
Participating with the story 'Dry Spell'

Tell me a little about yourself. How long have you been active as a comic artists and what have you been up to?

I've been drawing comics all my life, but I've only very recently been able to take the time and truly focus on the art of comic making. I don't plan on stopping any time soon, however, as I'm enjoying every second of it (no matter how much I bitch and moan when the deadlines are just around the corner). I'm currently a first-year student at Malmö Comic Art School and I hope to be able to continue working in the stimulating environment for another year.

Why did you want to participate in this project?

Partially because I would be in this project together with a great number of individuals who I like both as people and as artists, and partially because when it was mentioned to me I got very inspired. My original plan to do something medieval or Viking-era was abandoned after a while though and the idea of a story about a dryad was what really stuck.

Have you drawn any erotic comics or incorporated sex in your stories before?

Yes. I've done a Naruto doujinshi called Stronger (http://stronger.smackjeeves.com/) and parts of my Big Project (The Red Planet) will include sex though it is by no means the focus of the story.

What are you up to now and where are you heading? Any plans?

I truly and sincerely hope that I will be able to get a lot done on The Red Planet (a steampunk comedy/adventure story set in alternative-universe-Victorian Mars) as it is my baby. I'm currently working on setting up a homepage for it (www.redplanetcomic.com) at the same time that I'm trying to finish the prequel to the story, Myths of Mars, and keeping up with every deadline Malmö Comic Art School throws at me. So far, so good, but if I got paid by the hour I'd be rich by now.

Welcome!

This blog will present the work with the anthology project called the 'Swedish Comic Sin'.

I started this project to challenge some of my fellow Swedish cartoon artists, and see if they each could deliver one erotic short story for an anthology. 10 artist accepted the challenge, and now the book is on it’s way to the print shop!

The book release is set to Small Press Expo in Stockholm 23rd-26th of April.

Back in the 50’ies, there was a rumour about Sweden being the most sinful place on earth. Movies like Arne Mattssons ‘One Summer of Happiness’ (1950) and Ingmar Bergmans ‘Summer with Monika’ (1953) made the world gasp with their open depiction of the naked body.
As a salute to these brave artist, this is the revive of the Swedish Sin – a comeback in cartoon style.

Drawing erotic porn comics is not exactly a stroll in the park. Making comics is like calling someone on the phone. You, the artist, speak directly to the reader – often reading your story alone. So, making erotic comics is like calling a stranger and start telling him or her a sexy story. The reader can always choose to put away the book, but you still have to tell the whole story, for them who want to read it.

In the following posts, I’ll interview the artists in the book and let you get to know them better. It will be like a great foreplay before the grand finale, the book release in the end of April!

Sincerely yours,

Natalia Batista
